ISO 9001:2026 Transition Training

ISO 9001:2026 is the 2026 edition of ISO 9001, the international standard for quality management systems (QMS). It replaces ISO 9001:2015. It is a technical revision: the ten-clause structure, the process approach, PDCA and risk-based thinking are unchanged. The main changes are requirements on quality culture and ethical behaviour, separation of risks from opportunities in Clause 6.1, strengthened planning of changes in 6.3, climate change in Clause 4, terms and definitions inside the standard, an expanded Annex A and the removal of Annex B.

The foreword names six changes: (1) core management system terms and definitions are now included in Clause 3; (2) quality culture and ethical behaviour are introduced, with requirements at 5.1.1 and 7.3; (3) risks and opportunities are more clearly separated, with 6.1 split into 6.1.1, 6.1.2 and 6.1.3; (4) planning of changes at 6.3 is strengthened; (5) Annex A is expanded to cover every clause; (6) Annex B is removed. Other changes include climate change in 4.1 and 4.2, customer satisfaction at 9.1.2, audit objectives at 9.2.2, new management review inputs at 9.3.2 and a restructured Clause 10. The course covers all of them clause by clause.

ISO/FDIS 9001:2026 was issued in 2026 and the final standard is being published in the second half of 2026. Based on previous revisions, IAF is expected to set a three-year transition period from the publication date, so certified organisations would need to transition by 2029. Certificates to ISO 9001:2015 remain valid until the end of the transition period. Confirm the exact deadline with your certification body once IAF publishes its transition arrangements.

There is no legal requirement, but auditors, QMS managers and internal auditors need to know the revised requirements before their organisation or clients transition. For CQI IRCA certificated auditors, an update to the new edition is part of maintaining competence and is recorded as CPD. This two-hour course covers every changed clause and issues a dated certificate of completion, which serves as that record.

No. This is a CPD awareness course delivered by 3FOLD Training, a CQI IRCA Approved Training Partner, and not a CQI IRCA certified course. For the 2008 to 2015 revision CQI IRCA ran a certified two-day transition course. For ISO 9001:2026 CQI IRCA has not released a certified transition course; its position is that auditors update through CPD, which can be completed at an Approved Training Partner. This course is that CPD. Learners who already hold a CQI IRCA certified ISO 9001:2015 QMS Lead Auditor certificate can use it as their ISO 9001:2026 evidence when applying for or maintaining QMS Auditor grade membership. The certificate is issued by 3FOLD and does not carry a CQI IRCA certified course mark.

It is enough to understand the changes, but it does not replace a CQI IRCA certified Lead Auditor course and it does not qualify you for CQI IRCA auditor membership on its own. The content is written reading material with comparison tables and worked examples; there is no video. You can stop and resume at any time, and your access is valid for 6 months from enrolment.

One final quiz of 20 single-best-answer multiple-choice questions, drawn from a bank of about 40. The pass mark is 80% (16 out of 20). Attempts are unlimited and the highest grade counts. Each module also contains two unscored sample questions with worked answers so you can check your understanding before the quiz.

Your access to the course on the 3FOLD Learning Management System is valid for 6 months from the date of enrolment. Within that period you can read the modules as many times as you like, retake the quiz and download your certificate and the course handbook. Most learners finish in a single sitting of about two hours.

A 3FOLD Training certificate of completion in PDF, issued immediately when you pass the quiz. It states the course title, the standard edition (ISO 9001:2026), the duration (2 hours) and the date. You get a 2015 versus 2026 table for every clause, classified as new requirement, restructure or wording only, and Module 10 covers a practical transition approach: awareness, gap review, action and verification. It also lists what you do not have to do, such as renumbering documents or withdrawing a quality manual.
