What is the Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) exam preparation course?

What is the eligibility requirement for CSSBB certification?
ASQ requires three years of full-time, paid work experience in one or more areas of the Six Sigma Black Belt Body of Knowledge. In addition, you need one completed Six Sigma project with a signed affidavit, or two completed projects with signed affidavits. Work experience must be in a full-time, paid role; paid internships, co-ops and coursework do not count.
How do I apply for the CSSBB exam?
You register with ASQ, apply for ASQ membership, and complete the CSSBB exam application online. ASQ reviews your documents and notifies you of next steps; 3FOLD provides complete guidance through this process.
How many questions are on the CSSBB exam and how long is it?
The CSSBB exam is a 165-question exam with 4 hours 18 minutes of exam time (a 4.5-hour appointment) offered in English only — 150 questions are scored and 15 are unscored pretest items.
Where and how often is the CSSBB exam offered?
Exams are delivered through ASQ's testing partner, Prometric, at international locations. ASQ opens four fixed testing windows a year (currently September, November, January and March), each with its own application deadline a few weeks before the window opens — it is not available for booking on-demand every day.
Does the CSSBB certification expire?
Yes. To maintain the integrity of your Six Sigma Black Belt certification, ASQ requires recertification every three years.
What is the difference between Green Belt and Black Belt?
A Black Belt is expected to lead full-scale Six Sigma projects and must submit a signed affidavit for one completed project (or two affidavits if the experience requirement is met through projects). A Green Belt builds a foundation and typically supports project execution under a Black Belt's guidance — a natural stepping stone before Black Belt.
Do I need a Green Belt certification before Black Belt?
ASQ does not require you to hold CSSGB before applying for CSSBB, as long as you meet the CSSBB work-experience and project-affidavit requirements. Many candidates do progress from Green Belt to Black Belt as their project leadership experience grows.
