You have decided to earn the Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE®) credential from ASQ (the American Society for Quality). A complete application keeps you on schedule, and a weak CV or a missing document can slow you down. This guide tells you what to prepare before you click submit.
To apply for the ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence exam, you submit an updated CV and your highest degree certificate as English PDF files, then pay the application fee. Your application must reach ASQ by the deadline for your chosen exam window. After approval, ASQ emails your Eligibility ID so you can schedule at a Prometric center or as a remote proctored exam.

What documents do you need for the ASQ CMQ/OE application?
You need two documents: an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) and your highest degree certificate. Keep both in English and in PDF format.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV): updated, in English, PDF. See the CV guidance below, or check our samples: CV sample 1 and CV sample 2.
- Degree certificate: your highest level of education, in PDF. You can send one combined file of your degree certificate and transcript of records, if you have one.
Do not attach any other certification, such as NEBOSH or a Quality Management System (QMS) Lead Auditor certificate. Extra files do not strengthen your application.

How many years of experience do you need?
ASQ requires 10 years of full-time, paid experience in the CMQ/OE body of knowledge, and your education reduces that number. At least 5 of the years must be in a decision-making position.
| Highest education | Experience required |
|---|---|
| Master’s degree or doctorate | 5 years |
| Bachelor’s degree | 6 years |
| Associate degree | 8 years |

ASQ defines a decision-making position as one with authority to define, execute or control projects or processes. Read the full rules on the ASQ CMQ/OE certification page.
Is training mandatory for the ASQ CMQ/OE exam?
No. ASQ does not require you to attend a training program to apply for or sit the CMQ/OE exam. Training is an optional way to prepare, and you can apply without it.

You apply online through your ASQ account, upload your documents and pay the application fee.

What should you know as the application deadline approaches?
Apply on or before the ASQ deadline for the exam window you want, and verify the dates on the ASQ site first. A late application is not accepted for that window and moves to the next one.
Exam window selection
During the application you select your preferred exam window from the options ASQ offers. If you want the earliest window, apply as soon as possible, and always be mindful of the deadline.

| January 1 – 31, 2027 | December 7, 2026 |

These dates are copied from ASQ and can change. Always verify the current testing windows and deadlines on the ASQ exam dates and deadlines page before you apply. See also our guide to CMQ/OE exam dates, when to apply and schedule.
Scheduling your exam date
Once ASQ approves your application, you schedule the exam. ASQ sends an email with the subject line “ASQ Exam Seating Information”, which contains your Eligibility ID and the Prometric link where you schedule. Keep the Eligibility ID safe, because you need it to proceed.
Exam venue options
You can take the exam at a Prometric center, or choose a remote proctored exam that you take from your office or home. During the exam application, you will see that some countries are not allowed to take the remote proctored exam, so check your country before you choose.
