Candidates often ask where to begin, because the exam covers six question domains plus a memo. The May 2026 blueprint from AACE International (AACEI) gives each domain a weighting. This guide uses those weightings to suggest a study order. Then it helps you adapt the order to your own strengths.
Quick answer
The Certified Cost Professional (CCP) blueprint from AACE International (AACEI) has 6 question domains and 119 questions, plus a memo for Communication. Managing Project Costs is the largest at 36%. AACEI does not publish a study order. Therefore, our suggestion is to start with the largest domain, move down to the smallest and then revise them all. The planner below adjusts that order to your own confidence.

What are the six CCP exam domains?
AACEI’s May 2026 CCP examination blueprint splits the question part of the exam into six domains. The table below gives the weighting and question count for each one. However, the last column is our suggestion and not an AACEI statement.
| Domain (blueprint wording) | Weighting | Questions | Suggested phase (ours) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Managing Project Costs | 36% | 43 | Phase 1 |
| Interface with Other Disciplines | 24% | 28 | Phase 2 |
| Performance Measurement and Analysis | 17% | 20 | Phase 2 |
| Create Reports and Documentation | 11% | 13 | Phase 3 |
| Inform the Risk Management Process | 7% | 9 | Phase 3 |
| Support and Inform the Scheduling Process | 5% | 6 | Phase 3 |
Our guides to the Managing Project Costs domain and the Interface with Other Disciplines domain cover the two largest domains. Also, our guide to the Performance Measurement and Analysis domain covers the third. The three small domains have their own guide.

Does AACEI set a study order?
The blueprint lists the domains and their weightings, but it does not give a study order. Therefore, you can choose your own path. The weightings still help, because a domain with 43 questions deserves more time than one with 6.
Why you should not skip the small domains
AACEI says that your final result is an overall average across 7 domains, and that 70% is the pass mark. However, we found no detail on how each domain feeds that average. As a result, we suggest that you cover all six question domains, plus the memo, even if you give the small ones less time.
Which study order can you follow?
This order is our suggestion, not an AACEI rule. It starts with the largest domain and ends with the smallest. Then it returns to every domain for revision.
Phase 1: build the core
Start with Managing Project Costs. It carries 36% of the weighting, and many later topics use its ideas. For example, performance measurement and reports both rely on cost data.
Phase 2: add the next two largest domains
Next, study Interface with Other Disciplines and Performance Measurement and Analysis. Together they carry 41% of the weighting. Also, both ask you to apply the cost ideas from phase 1.
Phase 3: finish with the smaller domains
Then cover Create Reports and Documentation, Inform the Risk Management Process, and Support and Inform the Scheduling Process. Each one is small, so a short block of study can cover it. However, do not leave them to the final week.
Run the memo alongside
Practise the memo in short sessions during all three phases. Finally, finish with revision and a full-length mock exam. Our Communication domain guide explains how the memo is assessed.
Start with the largest domain. Revisit them all.
Can you rank the domains for yourself?
The order above suits a learner with no strong or weak areas. However, you probably have both. Rate your confidence below, and the planner ranks the domains for you.
Domain study-order planner
For planning only. Rate your confidence in each domain from 1 (low) to 5 (high). The planner then ranks the domains by blueprint weighting and by how far you are from 5.
About this example: the ratings are made up to show how the planner works. Replace them with your own.
Want to practise as you go? The program includes 3 full-length mock exams.
How do you stay on plan?
Set a date for each phase and track it in a simple list. Then check your progress with a mock exam at the end of each phase. Our CCP study plan guide shows how to lay out the weeks.
Use the course
In addition, our CCP exam preparation program includes 40 on-demand video lessons, a complete CCP study guide, 3 full-length mock exams and a formula sheet and glossary. Our CCP mock exam guide explains how to use the mock exams to find weak areas.
AACEI publishes the blueprint on its own site. Therefore, read the official CCP details page before you finalise your plan.
