Enrolled in PMP® Training With 3FOLD? Here Is What Happens Next
A clear, step-by-step view of your first weeks and what comes after: accounts, live sessions, the PMI course, the application, a possible audit and exam scheduling.
In this guide
You have enrolled in PMP® training with 3FOLD Training, and the first live session is not far away. What happens now? A working professional with limited evenings needs a clear order of steps, not a long list of surprises. This guide walks you through the 4 phases of the 3FOLD onboarding journey, from setting up your accounts to scheduling the exam.
Quick answer
After you enroll in Project Management Professional (PMP®) training with 3FOLD Training, you move through 4 phases: prepare your accounts, access and materials; attend the live sessions and practice; finish the Project Management Institute (PMI®) course, collect your certificates and take mock exams; then submit your exam application. After PMI approves it, you pay the exam fee, receive your PMI Eligibility ID and schedule the exam. Follow the steps in order, because PMI can audit any application.
| Awarding body | Project Management Institute (PMI) |
| Training format | Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT), 35 contact hours |
| Live sessions | 5 Sunday sessions |
| Journey | 4 phases: before, during and after training, then application and exam |
| Application review | Generally within 5 calendar days for online applications, unless PMI selects it for audit |
| Audit | Random; 90 days to submit documents if selected |
| After approval | Pay the exam fee, receive your PMI Eligibility ID, schedule the exam |
| Exam options | Online with remote proctoring, or at a test center |
What does the onboarding journey look like after you enroll?
The journey has 4 phases, and each phase has one goal that makes the next one easier.
| Phase | Goal | Milestone |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Before training | Accounts, access and materials are ready | PMI course activated and 3FOLD LMS explored |
| 2. During training | Learn actively with your trainer | All live sessions attended and module quizzes done |
| 3. After training | Validate your knowledge | PMI course at 100%, certificates received, mock exams done |
| 4. Application and exam | Get approved and scheduled | Application submitted, then exam scheduled after approval |
The order matters. Skipping ahead, for example applying before you hold your PMI course completion record, can leave you short of evidence if PMI audits you.
What should you do before the training starts?
Get your accounts, access and materials ready before the first live session, so that your evenings go to learning and not to setup.
- Create your PMI account. You need one to apply for the exam. 3FOLD assists you in creating it if you do not have one.
- Receive your training resources and guidance from 3FOLD, including the guide to the PMI learning platform.
- Activate your official PMI course. PMI sends an invitation after you enroll. Your one-year access period starts at activation, not at enrollment, so activate when you are ready to study. Our illustrated activation guide shows each screen.
- Download and organize your learning materials into one folder, with a sub-folder for each module.
- Explore the 3FOLD Learning Management System (LMS). Watch the videos for mastery, complete the module quizzes after each lesson, and take the mock exams after the training.

What happens during the live training sessions?
You attend the live Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) sessions, which run as 5 Sunday sessions, and you practice after every lesson.
- Register for the live sessions through the link 3FOLD sends you, and keep your Sundays free.
- Attend every session. Each session builds on the last, so one missed Sunday can leave a gap.
- Complete the module quiz after each lesson while the content is fresh.
- Take part in discussions, exercises and case studies. They show you how the exam’s scenario questions work.
- Ask your trainer when something is unclear, and raise any problem with the 3FOLD team early so they can support you.
Our guide to the PMP course modules for 2026 shows what each part of the course covers.
What do you need to finish after the training ends?
Finish the whole PMI course at 100%, collect two certificates and use the mock exams to judge whether you are ready.
- Complete the PMI course at 100%, including the Knowledge Checks. PMI states that you must complete the Knowledge Check to generate your certificate of completion. A passing score is not required, and you can retake it.
- Receive your PMI certificate of completion and your 3FOLD Training completion certificate. Keep both, because PMI can ask for training evidence during an audit.
- Complete the mock exams and treat the results as a readiness check, not a verdict.
- Review the recorded sessions for any topic you want to revise.
Onboarding tracker
For planning only. Tick each step once you have done it and see your next step. This is a learning aid, not an official PMI or 3FOLD record, and nothing you tick is saved.
Phase 1 · Before training
Phase 2 · During training
Phase 3 · After training
Phase 4 · Application and exam
The tracker opens with Phase 1 ticked, as if you had just finished your setup. It shows 4 of 14 steps done (29%) and points you to registering for the live sessions as your next step.

How do you apply for the exam, and what if PMI audits you?
After training, you contact 3FOLD for application support, send in a draft of your project experience, and submit the application through the PMI portal.
3FOLD provides templates for the experience draft. Your experience must fall within the last 10 years, and the months must not overlap. The amount depends on your education, according to PMI.
| Your education | Project experience |
|---|---|
| High school diploma or GED | 60 months |
| Associate degree or vocational trade school | 48 months |
| Bachelor’s degree or higher | 36 months |
| Degree from a PMI Global Accreditation Center program | 24 months |
Read our guides on PMP eligibility requirements, what projects count as PMP experience and a PMP project description example before you write your draft. For the full walk-through of the form, see how to apply for the PMP exam. PMI states that online applications are generally processed within 5 calendar days, unless the application is selected for audit.
What if PMI selects your application for audit?
Audit selection is random, and it is not a rejection of your eligibility. PMI emails you before you pay the exam fee, and you have 90 days to submit your documents. PMI asks for:
- A copy of your degree, diploma or global equivalent
- Signatures from the supervisors or managers for each project you recorded
- Certificates for the training that makes up your 35 contact hours
Tell each reference that they are named on your application, and make sure they have the contact details you listed and can be reached. Our guide to the PMP exam application audit explains each document. You can also read the PMI Certification Handbook and the PMI PMP certification page for PMI’s own wording.
What happens after PMI approves your application?
You pay the exam fee, receive your PMI Eligibility ID by email, and then schedule your exam.
Decide about PMI membership before you pay, because the fee depends on your membership status and region. Our guide to PMP exam fees and PMI membership cost by country compares the options. You can sit the exam online with remote proctoring or at a test center, and when and where to take the PMP exam helps you choose.
How do you stay on track through all 4 phases?
Stay engaged, work in order, and ask for help early.
- Stay engaged in every phase, not only on the Sundays.
- Complete the PMI course without delay. Your application and any audit depend on it.
- Raise issues early. A small problem with access or a session is easier to fix on day 2 than on day 20.
- Keep attendance and study consistent, especially in the weeks of the live sessions.
- Follow the sequence and do not skip steps.

Frequently asked questions
What happens after I enroll in PMP training with 3FOLD Training?
After you enroll with 3FOLD Training, a Project Management Institute (PMI®) Authorized Training Partner, you move through 4 phases: preparing your accounts, access and materials, attending the live sessions, finishing the PMI course and mock exams, and then applying for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) exam. Following the steps in order helps you avoid delays.
Do I need a PMI account before the PMP training starts?
You need a Project Management Institute (PMI®) account to apply for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) exam. If you do not have one, 3FOLD Training assists you in creating it, so it is best to sort this out in the first phase, before the live sessions begin.
When does my access to the official PMI course materials start?
Access to the official Project Management Institute (PMI®) course materials for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) exam lasts one year from the date you activate the course, not from the date you enroll. After you enroll, PMI sends an invitation, so activate the course when you are ready to start studying.
What should I do after finishing the PMP training?
Complete the whole Project Management Institute (PMI®) course at 100%, including the Knowledge Checks, then collect your PMI certificate of completion and your 3FOLD Training certificate. Finish the mock exams to judge your readiness, and then start your Project Management Professional (PMP®) exam application.
How long does PMI take to review a PMP application?
The Project Management Institute (PMI®) states that online applications for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) exam are generally processed within 5 calendar days, unless the application is selected for audit. If an audit applies, PMI says the review should take about 5 to 7 business days once your documents meet the requirements.
What happens if PMI selects my PMP application for audit?
The Project Management Institute (PMI®) selects applications for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) exam audit at random, so selection is not a rejection of your eligibility. PMI emails you before you pay the fee and allows 90 days to submit a copy of your degree or equivalent, supervisor signatures for your experience, and certificates for your training.
What happens after PMI approves my PMP application?
After the Project Management Institute (PMI®) approves your Project Management Professional (PMP®) application, you pay the exam fee and receive your PMI Eligibility ID by email. You then schedule the exam online with remote proctoring or at a test center, and you have 1 year to take it, with up to 3 attempts in that period.
