A one-page note layout for each video lesson, a simple review routine and a planner that shows how little time revision can take.
AACEI Approved Education Provider · Licensed by KHDA (Knowledge and Human Development Authority), Dubai
Watching a video lesson is easy, but remembering it later is harder. Good notes close that gap. This guide is about notes for your CCP exam preparation and revision. It gives a one-page layout for each lesson. Then it shows a short review routine, and a planner for revision time.
Quick answer
These notes are for your own Certified Cost Professional (CCP) exam preparation and revision. They are not part of the AACE International (AACEI) exam, which is closed book. Keep one note page for each video lesson, with a domain tag, key ideas, formulas and terms, one example and two self-test questions. Review each page the next day, after a week and in your final revision. The planner below shows how much revision time that takes.

Why take notes at all?
Notes turn a lesson that you watched into material that you can revise during your CCP exam preparation. Without notes, you may need to rewatch whole lessons. Therefore, a short note page saves time later.
Notes are for study only
AACEI says that the CCP exam is closed book, with onscreen formula sheets. As a result, you cannot bring your notes into the exam, so they are for your preparation only. Check the exam delivery page for the current rules. However, the act of writing notes helps you remember the lesson.
What goes on a note page?
Keep one page for each lesson. The table below shows five sections. However, the layout is our suggestion and not an AACEI rule.
| Section of the page | What to note | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Header | Lesson title, domain tag and date | Lets you sort your pages later |
| Key ideas | Three to six points in your own words | Forces you to process the lesson |
| Formulas and terms | Each formula, term and a one-line meaning | Feeds your formula and glossary review |
| Example | One worked example or situation | Makes the idea easier to recall |
| Self-test | Two questions that you could answer later | Turns notes into revision practice |
A fixed layout makes your notes quick to scan. Also, the domain tag lets you sort pages by the six blueprint domains. Our guide to using video lessons and the study guide together shows where notes fit in each lesson cycle.

How do you take notes during a lesson?
Take notes in three moments. They are before, during and after the lesson. These steps are our suggestions.
Before the lesson
Open a fresh page and fill in the header. Then skim the matching study guide section for terms that you do not know. Also, add those terms to the page.
During the lesson
Pause at each key point and note it in one line. Use your own words, because copying the lesson word for word skips the thinking. For example, note what a formula measures, not only the symbols.
After the lesson
Add one example and two self-test questions. Then compare your page with the study guide. Finally, add anything that the guide explains better.
One page per lesson. Your own words.
How much time does revision take?
Short notes keep revision cheap. Enter your numbers below, and the planner shows the total time.
Revision time planner
For planning only. Enter your lessons, your review rounds, the minutes for each page review and your weeks. The planner then shows how much revision time your CCP exam preparation needs. It does not measure exam time.
About this example: the numbers only show how the planner works. Replace them with your own.
Want a formula sheet and glossary to revise from? The program includes both.
How do you revise from your notes for CCP exam preparation?
Revision here means going back over your notes while you prepare. It is not the exam itself. Use short, regular reviews. One option is to review each page the next day, again after a week and once more in your final revision before the CCP exam. Then adjust the rounds to suit your plan.
Cover and recall
Cover the key ideas and answer your self-test questions aloud. If you stall, read the page and try again. Our guide to the CCP formula sheet and glossary explains how to study terms and formulas.
Update your notes after mock exams
After each mock exam, add the missed topics to your pages with the cause of each miss. Then revise those pages first. Our mock exam results guide shows how to find the causes.
Use the course
In addition, our CCP exam preparation program includes 40 on-demand video lessons, a complete CCP study guide, 3 full-length mock exams, a memo writing guide and a formula sheet and glossary. Our CCP study plan guide shows how to schedule your revision.
FAQ: video lesson notes
About taking notes
What is a good way to take notes from CCP video lessons for exam preparation?
Keep one page for each lesson. Note the key ideas in your own words, add the formulas and terms, and end with two questions that you could use to test yourself.
Should you write down everything a video lesson says?
No. Full transcripts take a long time to review. Instead, note the ideas, the examples and the points that surprised you, and leave out the rest.
Can you bring your notes into the AACE International (AACEI) Certified Cost Professional (CCP) exam?
No. AACE International (AACEI) says that the exam is closed book, with onscreen formula sheets. Therefore, your notes are only for your preparation and revision, and not for the exam itself. Check the exam delivery page for the current rules.
How do you organise CCP notes by domain?
Tag every note page with one of the six domain names from the blueprint. Then you can sort your pages by domain and revise the weak ones first.
About revising from notes for CCP exam preparation
Should you use paper or digital notes?
Either works. Digital notes are easier to search, while handwriting suits some learners. Choose the one that you will keep up. This is our suggestion.
How often should you review your notes during CCP exam preparation?
One option is to review each page the next day, again after a week and once more in your final revision before the CCP exam. This is our suggestion, so adjust it to your plan.
How do you note formulas from video lessons?
Write the formula, what it measures and when to use it. Then compare it with the onscreen formula sheet. Our formula sheet and glossary guide explains how to study with both.
How do you use your notes after a mock exam?
Add each missed topic to your notes, with the cause of the miss. Then revise those pages first. Our mock exam results guide explains how to find the causes.
