What is CQI IRCA?
CQI IRCA is the International Register of Certificated Auditors, a division of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI), and it is based in the United Kingdom. CQI describes it as the leading register for management system auditors.
CQI IRCA also approves training organisations that meet its requirements. These are called CQI IRCA Approved Training Partners, and their courses are the first step toward CQI IRCA auditor certification. You can check 3FOLD on its CQI IRCA Approved Training Partner profile.
CQI IRCA certification confirms your knowledge, skills and experience in auditing management systems. It gives employers and clients a clear, independent record of what you can do.
What are the CQI IRCA auditor certification schemes?
CQI IRCA lists 14 certification schemes, and each one covers a different type of management system. The four that most learners choose are Quality, Occupational Health and Safety, Information Security and Environment.

A lead auditor in these schemes is responsible for internal and external audits of the management system. They may work as staff of the organisation or as an independent contracted auditor.
What are the CQI IRCA auditor grades?
There are five grades, and the one you can apply for depends on your audit experience after you complete a CQI IRCA-certified course.

| Internal Auditor | You conduct partial-system audits of your own organisation’s management system or a supplier’s, often alongside another job. |
| Auditor | You mainly conduct full-system audits, on your own or as part of a team. These can be internal, second-party or third-party audits. |
| Lead Auditor | You are competent in full-system audits and have experience leading audit teams. |
| Principal Auditor | You are a senior auditor with extensive experience who may no longer lead teams or audit regularly, for example because you now train, consult or manage. |

CQI IRCA’s rule is that you can hold as many schemes as you like, but not more than one grade on the same scheme. For example, you could be a Lead Auditor in Quality and an Auditor in Environment.
