What do these ISO 14001 MCQs cover?
They cover the EMS cycle, key definitions, the main clauses and five changes in the 2026 edition.
The table shows where the questions come from, so you can see which area to revise after you finish.
| Topic | Questions |
|---|---|
| EMS basics and the plan, do, check, act cycle | 1 to 3 |
| Key definitions: nonconformity, corrective action, improvement, aspects | 4 to 6 and 12 |
| Context, interested parties and scope | 7 to 9 |
| Support: awareness and documented information | 10 to 11 |
| Operation, monitoring and internal audit | 13 to 15 |
| Changes in ISO 14001:2026 | 16 to 20 |
Know the words first. Most audit mistakes start with a muddled definition.
Want to move from knowing the standard to auditing it? The course includes editable audit working documents and a case study.
Which edition of ISO 14001 do the questions follow?
Questions 1 to 15 apply to the standard in general, and questions 16 to 20 follow ISO 14001:2026, which replaces the 2015 edition.
According to the CQI and IRCA summary of key updates, the 2026 edition adds a clause on planning of changes, moves risks and opportunities into their own sub-clause, asks for defined internal audit objectives, changes documented information to be “available” and widens the environmental conditions an organization considers. The first 15 questions test ideas that carry across editions. The last five test those changes, and the wording comes from that summary rather than the standard itself, so always check the exact text in the standard you use. Our guide to what ISO 14001:2026 is and our page on ISO 14001:2026 transition training explain the changes in more detail.
How should you use the ISO 14001 MCQs?
Answer from memory, read every explanation and note the topics where you slipped.
- Answer from memory the first time, so the score shows what you know.
- Read each explanation, even when you are right.
- Note the weak topics using the table above.
- Revise those topics in the standard and in our guides.
- Reset and try again a few days later to see what stuck.
How do you read your score?
Use the bands below as a guide to where to focus. They are 3FOLD Training’s own guide, not an official pass mark.
| Score out of 20 | What it suggests |
|---|---|
| 16 to 20 | A good grasp of the basics. Move on to scenario questions and audit practice. |
| 11 to 15 | A fair base with gaps. Revise the topics where you lost marks. |
| 0 to 10 | Start with an introduction to the EMS and the key terms, then try again. |
One score does not predict how you will do in an exam. The pattern of what you missed matters more.
How are MCQs different from the CQI IRCA exam?
MCQs test knowledge of the standard, while the exam tests how you apply the standard and the audit method.
According to the 3FOLD Training course page, the CQI and IRCA ISO 14001 Lead Auditor exam is open book, with 40 questions and 80 marks over 1 hour 45 minutes, plus extra time if English is not your first language. We prepare you for the exam; CQI and IRCA examine and certify, so the exam rules are theirs.
