Total PMP® Certification Cost: Member vs Non-Member
Exam fee, membership, training and the smaller costs, with a planner that shows which route is cheaper for you.
In this guide
The price of the PMP exam is only part of the total. Membership, training, a possible reschedule and the renewal every three years all add up, and PMI sets some of these fees while training providers set others. A clear budget starts with knowing which is which.
This guide uses PMI’s published exam fees and shows how to compare the member and non-member routes. Fees change and vary by country, so check pmi.org for the figure that applies to you on the day you pay.
Quick answer
The total cost of PMP certification is the exam fee plus training, plus PMI membership if you choose it. PMI lists the exam at US $405 for members and US $555 for non-members, so membership saves US $150 on the exam but has its own fee. Tax, your country and the training provider you choose also change the total. Use the planner below with the membership and training prices you are quoted.
| Exam fee, member | US $405 |
| Exam fee, non-member | US $555 |
| Change within 30 days | US $70 plus taxes |
| Renewal | Every 3 years |
| Check | pmi.org for current fees in your country |
What does the PMP exam cost?
PMI’s PMP page lists the exam fee as US $405 for PMI members and US $555 for non-members. These fees are paid directly to PMI, not to a training provider. Taxes can apply, and PMI calculates them from the country where you live or work, not from your nationality. That is why it matters to enter your current work country correctly when you create your PMI account.
To get the member fee, you must join PMI before you pay for the exam. Membership also gives you free digital copies of the PMBOK® Guide and other PMI standards and discounts of up to 30% on certification, study resources and events. PMI sets the membership price, so look it up on pmi.org for your country.

What other costs add to the total cost of PMP certification?
- Training. PMI asks for 35 hours of project management education or the CAPM® certification. Training fees are set by the provider, not PMI. PMI has announced that from late in 2026, live training must come from an Authorized Training Partner, a China Registered Education Provider or an accredited academic programme to count.
- Changing your appointment. Rescheduling or cancelling within 30 days of your exam costs US $70 plus taxes, and you cannot change it within 48 hours.
- Retakes. You have up to three attempts in your one-year eligibility period, and a fee applies for the second and third. Check pmi.org for the current retake fee.
- Renewal. The PMP must be renewed every three years by earning professional development units. Renewal fees depend on membership, so check pmi.org.
- Study materials. Many are included in a course, and members can download PMI standards free.
