What does this ISO 14001:2026 mock test cover?
It covers six themes of the standard, from context and leadership to continual improvement, with extra weight on what is new in 2026.
The questions follow the order of the plan, do, check and act cycle, so you can see which stage you know best. The table shows the themes the test covers. Clause numbers are given only where the CQI and IRCA summary of key updates gives them, so always check the standard for the full structure.
| Theme | Topics |
|---|---|
| Context and leadership | Edition, wider environmental conditions, top management |
| Planning | Planning of changes, risks and opportunities, compliance obligations, aspects, objectives |
| Support | Documented information, awareness, communication |
| Operation | Life cycle perspective, outsourced processes, emergency preparedness |
| Performance evaluation | Internal audit objectives, monitoring evidence, management review |
| Improvement | Nonconformity and continual improvement |
A mock test is most useful when you review your wrong answers, not only the score.

What changed in ISO 14001:2026?
ISO 14001:2026 is Edition 4, it replaces ISO 14001:2015, and it adds planning of changes, separate risks and opportunities, defined audit objectives and a stronger life cycle perspective.
According to the CQI and IRCA summary of key updates, the main changes are listed below. Several of them appear in the questions, so read the table before you start. The wording comes from that summary rather than from the standard, so check the standard for the exact text. If you still need the older edition, try our ISO 14001:2015 mock test.
| Change | What to remember |
|---|---|
| Planning of changes | A new clause, 6.3, asks the organization to plan changes to the EMS in a controlled way. |
| Risks and opportunities | They move into their own sub-clause, 6.1.4. |
| Compliance obligations | Minor changes to 6.1.3. |
| Internal audit | Objectives for internal audits should be defined. |
| Documented information | It must be available, not only retained and maintained. |
| Life cycle perspective | The perspective is stronger across the standard. |
| Environmental conditions | Wider conditions, such as climate change and biodiversity, are considered. |
Our guide to what ISO 14001:2026 is and our page on ISO 14001:2026 transition training explain these changes in more detail.
How should you use the mock test?
Answer without looking up the standard first, review every wrong answer, then note the themes where you slipped.
- Answer from memory the first time, so the score shows what you know.
- Review each wrong answer and find the idea behind it in the standard.
- Note the weak themes using the table above.
- Revise those themes in the standard and in our guides.
- Retake the test a few days later to check what stuck.
How do you read your score?
Use the bands below as a guide to where to focus. They are 3FOLD Training’s own guide, not an official pass mark.
| Score out of 20 | What it suggests |
|---|---|
| 16 to 20 | A good grasp of the standard. Move on to applying them in audit scenarios. |
| 11 to 15 | A fair base with gaps. Revise the themes where you lost marks. |
| 0 to 10 | Start with the structure of the standard and our introductory guides, then try again. |
A single score does not predict how you will do in an exam. What matters is the pattern: which themes you missed and why.
How is this mock test different from the CQI IRCA exam?
This test checks knowledge of the standard, while the exam checks how you apply the standard and the audit method.
According to the 3FOLD Training course page, the CQI and IRCA ISO 14001 Lead Auditor exam is open book, with 40 questions and 80 marks over 1 hour 45 minutes, plus extra time if English is not your first language. We prepare you for the exam; CQI and IRCA examine and certify, so the exam rules are theirs. For the exam format, see our page on the CQI IRCA ISO 14001 Lead Auditor exam online, and for scenario-style practice try our ISO 14001 Lead Auditor sample exam questions and answers.

- Planning. Read our guide to environmental aspects and impacts.
- Support. Read our guides to documented information and environmental communication.
- Operation. Read our guide to operational control and life cycle thinking.
