LEED Process is the joint largest knowledge domain on the LEED Green Associate exam, worth 15 of the 100 questions. It covers how USGBC and GBCI are organised, how a rating system is structured, how projects are certified and what LEED is trying to achieve. These 15 practice questions test all of it.
Candidates often treat LEED Process as background reading and spend their time on the technical categories instead. That is a mistake. It carries the same weight as Energy and Atmosphere, and unlike the technical material it is almost entirely memorisation — which makes it the cheapest 15 marks on the paper.
What this domain covers
The published exam specification puts the following inside LEED Process: how USGBC and GBCI are organised and what each does; the structure of a rating system, including Minimum Program Requirements, prerequisites and credits; the benefits of certification; the resources available to project teams; the rating system families and how a team chooses between them; how LEED itself is developed and updated; the goals of each credit category and the synergies between them; the LEED v5 impact areas; and the certification process from registration through review to award.
That is a wide spread for 15 questions, so expect breadth rather than depth. Knowing a little about all of it beats knowing one part thoroughly.

Where candidates lose marks in this domain
- Confusing MPRs with prerequisites. MPRs decide whether you can use LEED. Prerequisites are mandatory items inside the rating system. Different things, and both are tested.
- Confusing USGBC with GBCI. One writes the rating system, the other certifies projects and runs the exams.
- Assuming weighting follows effort. It follows impact.
- Mixing up 1993, 1998 and 2008. USGBC founded, first LEED version piloted, GBCI formed.

Frequently asked questions
How many LEED Process questions are on the exam?
15 of the 100, making it the joint largest knowledge domain alongside Energy and Atmosphere.
Is LEED Process the easiest domain?
It is the most memorisable, because it tests organisational facts and process rather than technical judgement. That makes it the best return on study time, not necessarily the easiest to score full marks in.
Do I need to memorise the certification point bands?
Yes. Certified 40 to 49, Silver 50 to 59, Gold 60 to 79, Platinum 80 or more. These come up reliably.
