Write it in full: LEED Green Associate. Not “LEED GA”, not “LEED Certified”, not “LEED Accredited”. USGBC’s branding guidance sets out how the credential may be displayed, and the most common versions on LinkedIn are wrong — which matters, because the people most likely to notice are the ones you are trying to impress.

Two points people miss. The abbreviation “LEED GA” is not an approved form of the credential name — write Green Associate out. And on the AP side it works the other way round: “LEED AP” is the correct form, not the expanded “LEED Accredited Professional”, with the specialty appended.
The mistake to stop making today
Never describe yourself as “LEED Certified”.
Certification applies to buildings and projects. People are accredited or credentialed. Writing “LEED Certified” on a profile tells anyone who works in this field that you do not yet know the difference between a building rating and a professional credential — which is, unfortunately, one of the things the exam tests.
It is the single most common error in this area and it appears on profiles constantly. If it is on yours, change it now. The distinction is explained in certification versus accreditation.
Where to put it
On a CV
Two places, and both are worth using.
The name line. If you list credentials after your name, add it there: Jane Smith, LEED Green Associate. It is seen in the first second of a scan.
A credentials or qualifications section. Give the full name and the year you earned it. If it is directly relevant to the role, a single line of context earns its place — something like “LEED Green Associate — covering the LEED certification process and green building principles across energy, water, materials, indoor environment and site.”
What not to do: do not scatter it through the document, and do not list it among skills. It is a credential, not a skill.
On LinkedIn
Three places, in order of visibility.

The About section is worth a sentence too, but as evidence of an interest rather than a list — what you use the knowledge for is more persuasive than the fact you hold it.
In an email signature
USGBC’s guidance gives email signatures as an appropriate place. One line, the full credential name, after your name.
Logos and badges
USGBC makes credential logos available to holders, and there is a condition worth knowing: they are for active credentials. If a credential lapses or is revoked, the logo is no longer available to use.
That has a practical consequence. The credential runs on a two-year cycle with 15 continuing education hours, and a lapsed credential is not something to display in any form — on a profile, in a signature or on a CV. See maintaining your credential.
What to write while you are still studying
This comes up often, and the answer is short: do not claim the credential before you hold it.
What you can legitimately say is that you are preparing for it. On LinkedIn, “currently preparing for the LEED Green Associate exam” in your About section is honest and shows direction. What you must not do is add “LEED Green Associate” to your name field with “(in progress)” beside it, or list it under Licenses & Certifications with a future date. Both read as a claim, and both are the kind of thing that gets noticed for the wrong reasons.
Getting more out of it than the letters
A credential on a profile is a claim. Evidence is better.
- Say what you use it for. “LEED Green Associate” plus a line about the certified project you supported is worth more than the credential alone.
- Let it inform your headline. Positioning yourself as someone who works at the intersection of your discipline and sustainability is a stronger claim than a credential in isolation.
- Keep it current, visibly. Continuing education hours are real professional development. There is no reason not to mention what you did to earn them.
