Plans change, and many candidates in the UAE want to know what happens if they need a new exam date or have to cancel. This article explains what the USGBC handbooks currently say about rescheduling and cancelling a LEED exam, how the timing windows work and what happens if you miss your appointment. It uses the LEED Green Associate Candidate Handbook, the LEED AP with Specialty Candidate Handbook and the USGBC LEED v5 exam information page. It describes how fees work but does not state fee amounts, exam dates, pass rates or exam eligibility rules, and policies can change, so check the official USGBC and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) pages before you change a booking.

Quick answer

Yes, within limits. The LEED handbooks say you may reschedule or cancel up to 46 calendar days before your exam date without a fee. A fee applies from 45 to 30 days before, and a higher fee from 29 to 4 days before. You cannot reschedule or cancel after midnight on the third day before the appointment, and missing the exam means you forfeit the entire exam registration fee. Changes are made on the Prometric website.

Can you reschedule or cancel your LEED exam?

Yes, the handbooks allow both, and the timing decides the fee.

The LEED Green Associate handbook has a Rescheduling and Cancellation section, and the LEED AP with Specialty handbook lists the same timing rules. Both say you can confirm, cancel or reschedule your exam on the Prometric website. The table below summarizes the situations people ask about most. Our guide on how to register for the LEED Green Associate exam covers the steps you take before you reach this stage.

How early do you need to reschedule or cancel?

Act at least 46 days ahead for no fee, and never leave it to the last three days.

The handbook sets its timing windows in calendar days before your scheduled exam date. Up to 46 calendar days before, you may reschedule or cancel without a fee. Between 45 and 30 days before, a fee applies. Between 29 and 4 days before, a higher fee applies. After midnight on the third day before the appointment, you cannot reschedule or cancel. The handbook refund table sets out the fee amounts, and this article does not repeat them because they can change.

  • 46 or more days before: reschedule or cancel without a fee
  • 45 to 30 days before: a fee applies
  • 29 to 4 days before: a higher fee applies
  • 3 days or less before: no changes are allowed

The handbook also says your paid exam registration fee is good for one exam attempt within the registration window, and that you forfeit your registration if you do not complete the exam in that window. For the LEED Green Associate exam the window is 12 months from your registration date, and the LEED AP with Specialty v5 beta registrations have a shorter window, so check the handbook for your exam.

What happens if you miss or are late for your exam?

You forfeit your registration fee, and you may lose your seat.

The handbook says that if you miss your exam date, or do not reschedule or cancel at least 3 calendar days before it, you forfeit the entire exam registration fee. Lateness has its own rules. At a test centre, arriving after your scheduled exam time means you lose your seat and forfeit your exam registration fee. For a remotely proctored online exam, arriving at virtual check-in after your scheduled time means you forfeit the exam and the fee. The handbook also lists a name that does not match your ID, leaving your seat during an online exam and ending a test centre session early as situations that forfeit the fee. If you are disconnected from ProProctor three times, the Remote Proctor will ask you to reschedule.

Change your booking early, because the last three days allow no changes.

How do you reschedule or cancel a LEED exam?

Use the Prometric website, with your current EID.

The handbook says you can confirm, cancel or reschedule on the Prometric website, and to use your current EID when rescheduling. After you reschedule you receive a new confirmation email from Prometric, and if it does not arrive the handbook says to contact Prometric immediately. To switch between a test centre and a remotely proctored online exam, you first cancel the booking you have and then follow the link to schedule the other format, and applicable fees may apply. If you plan a test centre booking in the UAE, our guide on LEED exam test centres in the UAE explains where and how to book.

  • Have your current EID ready before you start
  • Change the booking on the Prometric website
  • Look for the new confirmation email from Prometric
  • Contact Prometric at once if no confirmation arrives

Prometric may occasionally cancel an appointment itself, and the handbook asks you to allow up to 5 business days for its scheduling system to process the update. If the name on your ID does not match your registration, contact GBCI at least 10 business days before your testing date. For technical problems during an online exam, the handbook says to contact Prometric Tech Support before GBCI.

How do you plan your next step?

Choose a date you can keep, and read the handbook before you book.

Start by reading the LEED Green Associate Candidate Handbook and the LEED AP with Specialty Candidate Handbook, and use the USGBC LEED v5 exam information page for the current status of the LEED v5 exams. Eligibility and registration rules are set by USGBC and GBCI and this article does not state them, so see our guide on LEED Green Associate eligibility before you apply. A fixed exam date also helps you plan your study, and our page of LEED Green Associate practice questions and our guide on LEED training course versus self-study can help you structure the weeks before it. A training certificate is not a credential, so see our guide on the difference between a LEED training certificate and a credential. The courses are delivered as Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) with Learning Management System (LMS) resources, practice questions and full-length mock exams.

Frequently asked questions

Can you reschedule or cancel your LEED exam?

Yes. The LEED Green Associate and LEED AP with Specialty handbooks both say you can reschedule or cancel on the Prometric website, and the fee depends on how early you act. Check the Rescheduling and Cancellation section of the LEED handbook for your exam before you change a booking.

How early can you cancel or reschedule your LEED exam without a fee?

The LEED handbooks say you may reschedule or cancel up to 46 calendar days before your scheduled exam date without a rescheduling or cancellation fee. After that point, a fee applies, so plan any change as early as you can.

What fees apply if you reschedule or cancel a LEED exam late?

The LEED handbooks say a fee applies if you reschedule or cancel between 45 and 30 days before the exam, and a higher fee applies between 29 and 4 days before. The refund table in the handbook sets out the amounts, and this article does not repeat them because they can change.

Can you reschedule your LEED exam in the last three days?

No. The LEED handbooks say you cannot reschedule your exam after midnight on the third day before the scheduled appointment. In that window the handbook refund table does not allow a cancellation or a reschedule.

What happens if you miss your LEED exam?

The LEED handbooks say that if you miss your exam date, or do not reschedule or cancel at least 3 calendar days before it, you forfeit the entire exam registration fee. Arriving after your scheduled time at a test centre or at online check-in also forfeits your seat or exam and the fee.

How do you reschedule or cancel a LEED exam?

The LEED handbooks say you can confirm, cancel or reschedule on the Prometric website, using your current eligibility ID (EID). You then receive a new confirmation email from Prometric, and if it does not arrive you should contact Prometric immediately.

Can you switch between a test centre and an online LEED exam?

Yes, but the LEED handbooks say you first need to cancel the exam you have booked, and then follow the link to schedule the other format. Applicable rescheduling or cancellation fees may apply, so check the timing windows before you switch.

How long do you have to take the LEED exam after registering?

The LEED Green Associate handbook says you have 12 months from your registration date to schedule your exam, and that your paid fee is good for one exam attempt in that period. The LEED AP with Specialty handbook says v5 beta registrations have a shorter window, so check the handbook for your exam.

Is a LEED training certificate the same as a LEED credential?

No. A training certificate shows you completed a LEED course, while a LEED credential is earned through the exam administered by GBCI. A course prepares you for the exam, and the exam result decides the credential.

How long are the 3FOLD Training LEED courses and how are they delivered?

On the 3FOLD Training course pages, the LEED Green Associate course runs 14 hours, the LEED AP BD+C course runs 21 hours and the combined LEED path runs 35 hours. They are delivered as Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) with Learning Management System (LMS) resources, practice questions and full-length mock exams.

Where can I check the current LEED rescheduling and cancellation rules?

The Rescheduling and Cancellation section of the LEED candidate handbooks and the USGBC exam information page hold the current LEED rules. This article does not state fee amounts, exam dates or eligibility rules, so check USGBC and GBCI before you change a booking.
